Milestone Geo Control

The goal of this milestone is two-fold:

• to provide complete support in our data model for all descriptive aspects of placenames and locations already inherent in the legacy dataset
• to streamline the process of manual data entry and guard against accidental error through the use of controlled vocabularies and context-sensitive help

The following major activities constitute the milestone:

• refinement of the data model to fully support the "place" construct, a package of relationships that bring together names, geographic locations and time periods
• modeling uncertainty, to ensure that content creators and users will be able to indicate and determine the certainty with which any assertion in the data is made
• controlling data entry for names and locations by populating selection widgets with values drawn from authority lists (i.e., controlled vocabularies) rather than requiring typing in plain text fields
