The Ancient World Mapping Center (AWMC) promotes cartography, historical geography and geographic information science as essential disciplines within the field of ancient studies through innovative and collaborative research, teaching, and community outreach activities.

The AWMC is a research center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is administratively aligned under the Department of History, a component of the College of Arts and Sciences. Major funding for the Center's endowment is provided by the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities and the Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation.
